Retreat Program
Day 1 - Arrive, Observe & Discover
12:00 PM | Arrival & Welcome
Arrive, check in, and settle into the space with a welcome drink. A guided walk around Paarli Dhara introduces you to the home, its handmade details, and the surrounding landscape. Take a little time to breathe and feel at ease.
1:00–2:30 PM | Lunch & Conversations
Gather for a warm, home-style meal and get to know your fellow participants. Share your interests, expectations, and what draws you to exploring colour and creating with nature.
2:30–4:00 PM | Time to Settle
Rest, find a quiet corner, or spend time outdoors. Give yourself an unhurried pause before our first guided session.
4:00–5:30 PM | High Tea, Natural Colours & Outdoor Discovery
Begin over tea with an introduction to natural colours—what distinguishes pigments, inks, and dyes, and how each can be used.
We then take a gentle outdoor walk to a quiet place to sit and observe. Before collecting anything, we notice the textures, colours, and life around us. From there, we explore how to gather small natural samples mindfully, with room for questions, conversation, and quiet discovery.
5:30–7:30 PM | Evening by the Fire
Ease into the mountain evening with warmth, music, and stories under open skies. Share something you noticed during the walk, exchange ideas, or simply enjoy the company.
7:30–9:00 PM | Dinner & Unhurried Company
Close the day with a thoughtfully prepared multi-course dinner inspired by local ingredients. Take your time over the meal, letting conversations and the day’s discoveries unfold.
Day 2 - From Gathered Materials to Handmade Colours
7:00–8:00 AM | A Slow Morning
Begin gently with yoga, journaling, birdwatching, forest sound bathing, or a quiet art session. Choose what feels right for you and take time to notice the morning around you.
8:00–10:00 AM | Guided Village Walk & Mindful Collection
Walk through village pathways, past Himalayan homes, and experience the slower rhythms of local life.
Along the way, we look for naturally coloured earth and plant materials. Learn what to observe, recognise materials that may be suitable for colour-making, and gather small quantities thoughtfully.
10:00 AM–1:30 PM | An Unhurried Pause
Rest, journal, sketch your observations, or spend time looking more closely at the samples we have gathered.
1:30 PM | Lunch & Conversations
Come together for lunch and share discoveries from the morning, followed by time to rest before our creative session.
3:30–5:30 PM | Natural Colour-Making & Intuitive Art
Through a guided demonstration, explore how suitable earth and plant materials can be processed into pigments, paints, and inks.
We then create art with our handmade colours, drawing inspiration from our observations by flowing water. Let your feelings and curiosity guide you, without pressure to make something perfect.
We close with an open Q&A and time to share our work, experiences, and reflections.
5:30–8:00 PM | Time at Your Own Pace
Continue experimenting with your colours, enjoy quiet conversation, or unwind in the mountain surroundings.
8:00–9:00 PM | Himachali Dinner & Folk Evening
Gather for a traditional Himachali meal, with music, stories, and shared reflections bringing the day to a gentle close under the mountain sky.
Day 3 - Botanical Expression in the Outdoors
7:00–8:00 AM | A Slow Start
Begin quietly with gentle movement, stillness, and observation. Stretch, breathe, or sit outdoors, allowing yourself time to notice the morning around you.
8:00–10:00 AM | Breakfast & Unhurried Conversations
Enjoy breakfast at your own pace. Share discoveries from your colour-making experiments and prepare for a day of creating outdoors.
10:00 AM–1:00 PM | Artists of the Wilderness
We return outdoors for quiet sitting, breathing, meditation, and a small mindful activity before exploring botanical expression through art.
Spend time observing the trees, soil, rocks, and plants around you. Notice leaf patterns, the contours of a stone, the movement of the breeze, and the changing light. Let these details guide your botanical prints and artwork, using the natural colours we have created.
There is room to experiment, follow your curiosity, and enjoy the process without needing a perfect outcome.
1:00–3:00 PM | Picnic & Open-Air Exploration
Gather for a picnic lunch, followed by continued art-making in nature. Develop an idea, try another print, or pause to look more closely at something that catches your attention.
3:00–7:30 PM | Time to Explore or Rest
Continue your artwork, journal, exchange ideas, or simply unwind. Give yourself space to absorb the experiences of the past few days.
7:30 PM Onwards | Evening Gathering
Come together to share our colours, prints, artwork, and the stories behind them. Reflect on what surprised us, what challenged us, and what we would like to keep exploring.
We hope you carry home more than handmade colours and artwork: a practice of paying attention, skills to continue experimenting with, and memories of creating in the company of nature and other curious souls.
Day 4 - Reflect, Appreciate & Carry It Forward
10:00 AM | A Final Breakfast, Art Display & Checkout
Gather for one last slow breakfast and a display of our handmade colours, botanical prints, and artwork.
We share the stories behind our creations, reflect on our discoveries, and appreciate the time spent learning together. Before departure, there is room for final questions about caring for our colours and continuing to explore at home.
Leave with shared memories, new skills, and perhaps a little more curiosity about the colours and textures around you.
Optional Experiences | Continue Exploring
If you wish to extend your creative time, enquire about additional sessions in mud sculpting, miniature landscapes, pyrography, terrarium making, or polymer clay jewellery. You can also enjoy paragliding or café hopping in Bir. These experiences are arranged separately, subject to availability.
We hike. We forage. We laugh. We learn.
