About This Retreat

Join one of the world’s most sought-after Snow Leopard Photography Expeditions in Spiti Valley, India’s premier destination for photographing the elusive Snow Leopard in the wild. Designed specifically for wildlife photographers and serious nature enthusiasts, this winter expedition operates in the high-altitude Trans-Himalayan region of Spiti, globally recognized as one of the best places in the world to photograph Snow Leopards. Unlike short or commercial wildlife tours, this expedition focuses on extended time in prime Snow Leopard territories, expert-led tracking, and ethical wildlife observation. With over 8 consecutive years and a 100% Snow Leopard sighting success rate, Wild Wonders Expeditions offers one of the most reliable and professionally run Snow Leopard photography tours in the Himalayas. This journey prioritizes wildlife photography, high-altitude tracking, long observation sessions, and eye-level photography —placing time with the animal above comfort-driven sightseeing.

Retreat Program

Day 1 - Day 1 – Drive to Rampur (4,500 ft)
Our Snow Leopard Photography Expedition officially begins as we pick you up from your Chandigarh hotel after breakfast. Enjoy a scenic 8-hour drive via Shimla to Rampur, with lunch and tea breaks en route. This first halt helps you acclimatize gradually before entering the higher altitudes of Spiti Valley. Overnight at Himalayan Heritage or similar. (L/D)
Day 2 - Day 2 – Rampur to Tabo (10,500 ft)
After an early breakfast, we continue towards Tabo — crossing into the dramatic landscapes of the Trans-Himalayas. The terrain transitions from forested slopes to stark, rugged mountains as we drive along the Satluj and Spiti rivers. Arrive at Tabo by evening and check into your traditional homestay. Overnight at Maitreyi Homestay or similar. (B/L/D)
Day 3 - Day 3 – Explore Tabo & Drive to Chicham (14,000 ft)
After breakfast, visit the ancient Tabo Chos-Khor Monastery, one of India’s oldest functioning monasteries, and the meditation caves nearby. Post-lunch, we proceed to Chicham village, our base for the Snow Leopard expedition. While we settle in, our trackers begin scanning the ridgelines for early sightings of the elusive “Grey Ghost.” Overnight at our homestay, Chicham. (B/L/D)
Day 4 - Day 4 – Tracking the Snow Leopard
At dawn, our expert local trackers head out to scan the ridges. Once a Snow Leopard is sighted, we set out with our guides and porters to the viewing point for photography and observation. Expect moderate walking depending on the cat’s movement. Packed lunch will be served on the field. Evening discussions and image review at the camp. Overnight at our homestay, Chicham. (B/L/D)
Day 5, 6, 7, 8 - Day 5 to 8 – Snow Leopard & Other High-Altitude Wildlife
These days are fully devoted to tracking and photographing Snow Leopards. Depending on sightings, we may also focus on other Trans-Himalayan fauna such as Red Fox, Blue Sheep, Asiatic Ibex, Lammergeiers and Golden Eagles — often found in the same habitat. Overnight at our homestay, Chicham. (B/L/D)
Day 9 - Day 9 – Chicham to Rampur
After breakfast, we begin our descent, driving back to Rampur through the winding Spiti valleys. This will be a long but beautiful drive with lunch en route. Overnight at Himalayan Heritage or similar. (B/L/D)
Day 10 - Day 10 – Rampur to Chandigarh (Tour Ends)
Early departure after breakfast. The expedition concludes in Chandigarh around 2 PM. Guests can catch their flights the same evening or choose to extend their stay overnight. (B/L)
